Background

Unite Caribbean Group is a Caribbean-based International Development Organization that specializes in driving the social, economic and environmental development across the Caribbean region.

Founded in 2017, Unite Caribbean Group offers consultancy services and project management to public organizations and private companies in areas of paramount importance for the region: Climate change, Waste and Water, Local Governance, Social sector and Economic development.

The Group is comprised of four entities working in close collaboration: Unite Caribbean SAS (Guadeloupe) and Unite Caribbean Ltd. (Saint Lucia) form the management consulting branch addressing critical development challenges of our clients, whilst Emergence Caribbean Association and Impact Caribbean Inc. are two new established NGOs in 2024 developing long-term initiatives through grant funding.

The company’s multicultural teams of 20+ in-house management consultants and grant officers – from 7 nationalities – specialize in the development of inclusive regional technical cooperation strategies and brings analytical methods to solve complex problems of sustainable development at the scale of the Caribbean basin. The Group has offices in Guadeloupe, Saint Lucia, Barbados, Haiti, Saint Martin/Sint Marteen, Dominican Republic, Trinidad, French Guiana.

Mission

Unite Caribbean is one of the fastest growing companies in the Caribbean and is looking for an individual who is innovative and ready to be responsible for implementing fresh new ideas that will grow the company’s reach and reputation in the next 3 years. The Group Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be responsible for overseeing the operational functions of the Group and play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and effective operations of the company. Working closely with the CEO and other leadership team members, the COO’s primary responsibilities include strategic, organizational, and administrative leadership to the day-to-day operations of Unite Caribbean, directing the group, including its different entities, in achieving its objectives and ensuring its overall operational performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Planning (20%)

  • Partners with the CEO to carry out Unite Caribbean Group’s vision and strategy to staff across multiple locations
  • Implement business and restructuring strategies and plans that align with the short- and long-term objectives developed in tandem with the CEO
  • Acts as a strategic partner on the leadership team to ensure the Group is meeting performance expectations

Operations and Performance Management (40%)

  • Oversee operations, HR, and office management, across Unite Caribbean’s multiple locations
  • Oversee IT functions, as well as security and safety protocols
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the performance of the company’s operations in order to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement
  • Works collaboratively to develop and/or improve systems, processes, controls and procedures that improve the overall quality, efficiency and productivity of the Group and ensure excellent client service and community impact
  • Create, implement and roll out plans, to enhance business development practices, quality control protocols, templates, contract management and reporting, all designed to foster growth, funding, quality of service and efficiencies within Unite Caribbean Group

HR Management (40%)

  • Manages the overall strategy, purpose, and vision of the entire Human Resources function with the support of legal and HR services of the different jurisdictions: benefits, payroll, recruitment, learning and development, culture, performance management, and resource allocation
  • Develop and roll out a Professional Development Plan for the different entities of the Group
  • Coaches and develops the team to ensure they are delivering against key business metrics

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field required
  • Minimum of 10 years of management experience, including a strong employment history that reflects leadership, managing high level operations and teams, in an international environment
  • Previous experience working in a multicultural, multilinguistic and international environment
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership ability, confidence, and executive presence
  • Outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated professional and effective working relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, using data management skills and analytical abilities, both quantitative and qualitative
  • Dedicated, innovative, resourceful, business acumen and able to work in fast-paced, high productive environment
  • Team player with strong planning and organizational skills
  • Fosters a success-oriented, efficient, accountable and team-oriented work environment within the company
  • Fluency in English is required, incl. strong writing skills. Working knowledge in French is also required, Spanish is a strong asset

Contract & Remuneration

  • International Individual Contractor’s Agreement
  • Annual fee range based on experience, background: $75,000 USD –  $85,000 USD.
  • Performance bonus up to 15%
  • Duty station: Unite Caribbean office in Saint Lucia, Barbados or Guadeloupe
  • Short-term missions to Caribbean countries expected up to 30% of project activities.
  • Work Authorization: Candidate must be authorized to reside in one of the selected locations. However, visa sponsorship may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
