Unite Caribbean has been selected as the service provider for Phase 3 of the Caribbean Regional Architecture for Biodiversity (CRAB) Project. This phase focuses on enhancing the Architecture’s ability to address local and regional conservation needs, particularly in times of crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. Unite Caribbean’s role involves leveraging its expertise to develop and implement a pro-nature grant mechanism to support nature-based activities that will strengthen food and nutrition security, increase livelihood options, and enhance the resilience of protected areas.

To achieve these goals, Unite Caribbean will undertake several key actions. These include conducting stakeholder consultations and desk research to analyze the impacts of climate change, COVID-19, and other shocks on protected areas; designing participatory data collection tools, including multilingual survey instruments, workshops, and focus groups, to ensure inclusive engagement; facilitating a regional workshop to present and validate findings and ultimately drafting an evidenced-based Call for Proposals and implementation guidelines, outlining the main criteria, structure, and monitoring indicators for the Pro-nature Resilience Grant Programme.

The expected results of Unite Caribbean’s efforts are multifaceted. The establishment of a Pro-nature Resilience Grant Programme is anticipated to enhance the resilience of Caribbean protected areas by supporting nature-based activities that strengthen food security and livelihoods. The consultancy aims to attract innovative solutions through the CfP, leading to effective conservation actions that address the triple crises of climate change, biodiversity decline, and uneven development. The project’s success will be measured by the diversified funding sources, improved governance, and effective grant-making that will contribute to the sustainability of NCTFs and CBF, ultimately promoting a sustainable, biodiversity-driven economic recovery post-COVID-19.
