The Fondation de France, in partnership with Unite Caribbean, has set up a pilot scheme to build the capacity of associations in French Guiana, based on tried and tested methods from previous experiences, particularly in Saint-Martin. The aim of the programme is to structure, professionalise and empower the voluntary sector in French Guiana, in response to the specific challenges facing the region.
The programme is based on an innovative methodological approach, focusing on three key areas:
1. Initial and strategic diagnosis: identification of the strengths, weaknesses and needs of the participating associations.
2. Tailor-made support: individual coaching, project management skills development, fund-raising and internal structuring.
3. Networking and pooling of resources: collective inter-association workshops and creation of a digital toolbox to facilitate access to good practice and strategic resources.
The initiative benefited from the support and commitment of local institutional players, in particular the Collectivité Territoriale de Guyane (CTG), the Direction Générale de la Cohésion et des Populations (DGCOPOP), the CRESS Guyane and the Communauté d’Agglomération du Centre Littoral (CACL). These partners have made it possible to adapt the support to local realities, by integrating the structural challenges of Guyana’s associative fabric.
