Unite Caribbean is collaborating with Common Seas and the Department of Sustainable Development (DSD) of Saint Lucia to help the country address one of its most pressing environmental challenges: plastic pollution. The project is part of a global partnership with Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to radically reduce plastic leakage into the environment. 

 
Role of Unite Caribbean 

Unite Caribbean contributes regional expertise and on-the-ground support to ensure the success of this initiative. Its role includes conducting stakeholder engagement, reviewing deliverables, and facilitating workshops to ensure recommendations are tailored to Saint Lucia’s context. 

 
Actions of Unite Caribbean 

Unite Caribbean will conduct interviews with key national stakeholders, support the organization and facilitation of a two-day in-person workshop, and contribute to the drafting of sections of the Report on Recommendations. These activities complement Common Seas’ strategic, technical, and policy support to the DSD. 
 
Results (expected and achieved) 

The project will deliver baseline findings on plastic waste generation and leakage, projections of plastic flows under a “Business as Usual” scenario, and an assessment of the impact of different policy instruments. The final Report on Recommendations will guide Saint Lucia in enhancing and implementing effective policies to significantly reduce plastic pollution. By contributing to this process, Unite Caribbean is helping the country develop robust evidence-based solutions with broader applicability to other SIDS.
