Unite Caribbean in collaboration with ACCELA Marketing is conducting a study on the capacity of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the small island states of the Caribbean to cope with the Covid-19 health crisis. This study is part of the Red Cross PIRAC Covid programme and aims at setting up a business continuity plan and adapting the mobile application “Atlas: Ready for Business” to the specificities of Caribbean island territories and to the consequences and uncertainties of the Covid-19 crisis. Unite Caribbean has a unique know-how to carry out the study on the capacities of the Small Island States’ Medium Enterprises to face the Covid-19 sanitary crisis on the territories of Guadeloupe, Martinique and Saint Lucia and experiences in the field of Business Continuity with the Caribbean SME,s and finally the conduct of social and market studies.
In order to do this, Unite Caribbean focused on the one hand on analysing the consequences of Covid-19 on the activity and organisational modes of SMEs. On the other hand, it studied the effectiveness of the measures/strategies implemented by companies and institutional actors to limit the negative impacts of the crisis on the conduct of the activity and the retention of employees. And finally, it established strategic recommendations/measures to be integrated into the plans of continuity of activity in case of health crises thus allowing to favour the relaunch of the activity.
Thus, a statistical study on the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic on companies in Guadeloupe, Martinique and Saint Lucia, an inventory with feedback on the initiatives undertaken by institutional actors to support companies, and finally an evaluation of the effectiveness of the measures taken by companies to limit the impact on their activity, among others, have been carried out.
