Unite Caribbean, in partnership with BlackForest Solutions GmbH, is providing specialized expertise to support the Government of the Dominican Republic in implementing Decree 253-23 on the integrated management of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). The project aims to establish a comprehensive Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system and define sustainable financing mechanisms that promote circular economy principles.
Unite Caribbean leads local stakeholder engagement and data collection, contributing its strong regional knowledge and policy expertise. Activities include national consultations with producers, importers, and waste operators; the analysis of institutional and financial frameworks; and the design of a realistic EPR/PRO model adapted to the Dominican context. The team facilitates key national workshops and develops bilingual deliverables (English and Spanish), ensuring inclusive participation and alignment with government priorities.
The project will deliver a national WEEE assessment, propose an institutional structure for the PRO, and provide a roadmap and key performance indicators (KPIs) for implementation. The expected impact is a more efficient, transparent, and financially viable WEEE management system that reduces environmental pollution and strengthens the circular economy in the Dominican Republic.
