Unite Caribbean acted as a key regional partner within the consortium led by Veolia Engineering & Consulting (Seureca), bringing in-depth knowledge of Caribbean institutional frameworks, environmental vulnerabilities, and public governance systems. Unite Caribbean contributed to strategic coordination, stakeholder engagement, policy analysis, and the contextualization of international best practices to Grenada’s national realities. Its role was essential in ensuring that the proposed policies were both ambitious and implementable within existing financial, institutional, and regulatory constraints.
Unite Caribbean supported the review and development of Grenada’s National Waste Policy and the National Plastic Action Plan through the following actions:
- * Conducted a desk review of existing waste- and plastic-related legislation and strategies;
- * Contributed to baseline assessments on solid waste and plastic waste management;
- * Actively participated in stakeholder engagement processes with ministries, the Grenada Solid Waste Management Authority (GSWMA), and other national actors;
- * Supported the definition of policy priorities, strategic actions, and implementation mechanisms;
- * Coordinated with parallel projects, notably on waste financing frameworks, to ensure policy coherence.
The project delivered a comprehensive National Waste Policy defining Grenada’s medium- and long-term vision, alongside a Strategic Plastic Action Plan translating this vision into concrete, time-bound actions. A comprehensive implementation framework ensured feasibility, sustainability, and alignment with international commitments, including emerging global plastic agreements. The project resulted in a coherent, actionable, and nationally owned policy framework that strengthened Grenada’s transition toward sustainable and resilient waste management systems.
