Background
Impact Caribbean is a newly established Non-for-Profit Organisation part of Unite Caribbean Group, a Caribbean-based International Development organisation that specializes in driving the social, economic and environmental development across the Caribbean region.
Founded in 2017, Unite Caribbean Group offers consultancy services and project management to public organizations and private companies in areas of paramount importance for the region: Climate change, Waste and Water, Local Governance, Social sector and Economic development.
The Group is comprised of four entities working in close collaboration: Unite Caribbean SAS (Guadeloupe) and Unite Caribbean Ltd. (Saint Lucia) form the management consulting branch addressing critical development challenges of our clients, whilst Emergence Caribbean Association and Impact Caribbean Inc. are two NGOs developing long-term initiatives through grant funding.
The company’s multicultural team of 20+ in-house management consultants and grant officers – from 7 nationalities – specialize in the development of inclusive regional technical cooperation strategies and brings analytical methods to solve complex problems of sustainable development at the scale of the Caribbean basin. The Group has offices in Guadeloupe, Saint Lucia, Barbados, Haiti, Saint Martin/Sint Marteen, Dominican Republic, Trinidad, French Guiana.
Prior to the establishment of Impact Caribbean, Unite Caribbean has managed 5 grant projects involving regional cooperation initiatives between English and French speaking countries for a total value of $3million USD (2018-2023), related to Climate Adaptation, Gender inequality, Plastic Waste management, or Vocational training.
Mission
Impact Caribbean is seeking a mission-driven professional with development experience to help manage fundraising activities with corporations, foundations, government and international agencies. As lead writer on proposals and reports to major donors, the Senior Grants Manager will play an essential role in the organisation’s ability to generate $1+ million USD in regional cooperation grant projects within the first 18 months. Working closely with the CEO to develop and implement a long-term strategic plan, the Senior Grant Manager will be responsible for managing and building the capacity of the newly established NGO.
The position demands a capacity to work and thrive in a multicultural setting, involving French, Spanish and English speakers.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Grant Development and Writing
- Conduct targeted research to identify new donors and manage donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategy for grants. Track current grant cycles and renewal processes and ensure stewardship to guarantee continued funding
- Carry out exploratory and fact-finding missions to ensure visibility, funding development and partnership building
- Lead the development of proposals for submission to donors in coordination with sector leads (experts) from Unite Caribbean, and the finance and operations teams
- Review guidelines for all proposals and reports to make sure all submissions are accurately formatted and include all required information, including budgets and materials
2. Grant Management
- In partnership with the Grants Officers and Consulting teams, oversee grants activities’ implementation and calendar, and lead reporting processes, both technical and financial
- Ensure that reports to donors are submitted on time; that reports are coherent, accurate and compliant with donor regulations
- Maintain contact and coordinate with donors regarding grant implementation, compliance and other requirements, in coordination with senior management.
- Actively participate in relevant donor meetings and coordinate meetings as necessary
- Ensure that partnership and sub-grant related administrative processes and procedures are consistently implemented throughout the program, including pre-award compliance checks, agreements, and disbursements and reporting.
- Respond to donor, auditor and external requests as needed.
3. Operational Development
- Oversee the implementation of a new Development database (CRM) and Grant Management software
- Coach, train, and mentor staff with the aim of strengthening their technical capacity, exchanging knowledge within the team and providing professional development guidance
- Supervise direct-report staff, including all HR related issues (clear expectations, performance, feedback, appraisal, leave requests)
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in International Development, Political Sciences, Engineering, Business or related field,
- 7 to 10 years of overall work experience in an international NGO or Project management on a international scope at a senior level, extensive knowledge of the Caribbean region
- A minimum of 3 years of grant writing and development experience
- Strong understanding and knowledge of corporations, foundations (especially US-based, such as Inter-American Foundation, the Coca-Cola Foundation, Open Society Foundation, etc.) , government and international agencies that are susceptible to fund grant projects in the Caribbean
- Experience with budgeting and budget development; basic financial management skills
- Team player with strong organisational skills
- Self-starter, entrepreuner, ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong commitment to supporting Caribbean development and Regional cooperation
- Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team; work well with diverse styles and personalities.
- Fluency in English is required, incl. strong writing skills, working knowledge of French or Spanish is a strong asset
Contract & Remuneration
- Work Contract, permanent and full-time position, under Saint Lucian law
- Gross Annual Salary range $50,000 USD – $65,000 USD based on experience, background
- Performance bonus up to 15%
- Duty station: Unite Caribbean Group office in Saint Lucia
- Short-term missions to Caribbean countries expected up to 30% of project activities.
- Work Authorization: Candidate must be authorized to reside in Saint Lucia. However, visa sponsorship may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
