The RePLAST-OECS Project has initiated the redemption of rewards component of the project. With the operation of the RePLAST Collection Points (RCPs) underway in a number of communities in Saint Lucia, a record amount of plastic bottles have been brought in for recycling and points assigned to customer reward cards. Now customers can use these points to redeem products or discounts from participating retailers.

Gros Islet Parliamentary Representative, Lenard Montoute commends the Gros Islet Constituency Council on the successful operation of the second RePLAST Collection Point (RCP). The RePLAST-OECS Pilot Plastic Recycling Project opened its first RCP in Gros Islet Saint Lucia, on January 16th, 2021. Delays due to Covid-19 saw the second operation pushed to February 27th. A total of 1,936 pounds of plastic bottles were received for recycling after the two days of collection.

On February 19th 2021, 50 students from the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) joined in on a virtual learning forum that included zoom presentations and a Q&A session for their school-based assessments! Ronald Roach our Waste Management Specialist was joined by Justin Sealy, General Manager of the Saint Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority; and Jeanel Volney-Albert of the Department of Sustainable Development. We had some interesting, thought-provoking questions and discussion with the students.

The RePLAST-OECS Project opened its first RePLAST Recycling Collection Point (RCP) in Gros Islet Saint Lucia, on January 16th, 2021. The launch was a success with over 974 pounds of plastic bottles received for recycling on the first day!

The RePLAST OECS project conducted training in Saint Lucia, on October 24th 2020 for close to eighty community, volunteers from Gros Islet and environs, Castries, Vieux Fort and Laborie.
The training was facilitated by Mrs. Geraldine Lendor-Gabriel, a Business Development Consultant and former General Manager of the Saint Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority.
The activity served as an orientation, and will be followed by more hands-on training on the ground, when the RePLAST Collection Points (RCPs) go into operation.

Working with local recyclers, the RePLAST‒OECS Project dispatched a second experimental shipment of plastic waste. In this video news release, a 2nd 40 foot container of baled PET bottles brought the export tally in two months to approximately 26,000 pounds (lbs). This exported plastic waste would normally be disposed of and as a result has increased the life of the Deglos Landfill.
