The Inter-American Development Bank Innovation Laboratory (IDB-Lab) has provided financing to the Cropper Foundation (TCF) to implement the multi-year project, Catalyzing and Connecting the Circular Economy in Trinidad and Tobago. The Cropper Foundation will lead the execution of the project with the responsibility of managing IDB-lab funding and facilitating the relationships among key private sector partners and other stakeholders. The project is being implemented through four components: Catalysing Behavioural Change, Piloting the Recycling Process, Design and Prototype of a pilot private sector facility and system to collect and process recyclable beverage containers, and a nominal monetary redemption for PET/HDPE and Tetra Pak beverage containers.

The objective of this component within the overall project, carried out by Unite Caribbean, is to develop a baseline study on current recycling and conversion of consumer waste versus the total volume produced in Trinidad and Tobago. This baseline provides a benchmark to propose recommendations on circular economy activities. It will also allow to measure changes in volumes of consumer waste collected and processed at the end of the project as a result of the implementation of a national behavioral change campaign and operation of at least one recycling collection facility.
